9800 GX2, 9800 GTX closing by....

That's it then. For those who are hoping for a whopping leap of performance in GeForce 9800 series might find this news a little discouraging: 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX will use the same 65 nm G92 found in 8800 GT. The difference is that it will use all its 128 shader processors, instead of 112. DailyTech has more stories about it here.

I personally will skip this generation although it's too soon to tell anything (apart from the fact that I'm not planning to spend any money to find 8800 GT replacement; it's good enough for me!). Anyway, I will keep a good eye on GX2's performance as it's a second attempt from NVIDIA after 7950GX2 didn't quite live up to expectation. Furthermore, they just can't leave 3870 X2 alone, can they?

And for 9800GTX, March 25th is the date!
