The fastest single card: AMD HD3870 X2

Ahhh..it's good to be around again. After some long hiatus due to some business matters, I can put it to rest and start picking something up. I know a few things that happened during this period : GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB is one of them. It's okay; with $50-$100 more and and advantage of 5-10 fps average in almost every games compared to 8800 GT, it's a good card for those who waited long enough to upgrade.

However, today the story is different when I hear a loud cheer of joy from AMD's camp. As predicted beforehand, AMD releases its multi-GPU solution in the form of two HD 3870 GPU, previously codenamed R680. It is considered AMD's high end offering after Radeon 2900 XT back in May 2007. At $449, some may find it attractive for a high-end graphics card, some might not.

Check out the review right here at AnandTech.

I think, 2008 will be the year for multi-GPU cards from AMD and NVIDIA, as based from what they've hinted at the end of last year. For that matter, there's one more thing that crop up in my mind: how about the power requirement for the system equipped with those monster cards?

Happy belated New Year!
